Get your AirPods back from the iPhone in one click
You sit down at your Mac, press play, and the sound comes out of the speakers. Your AirPods are still talking to your iPhone.
Automatic switching is supposed to handle this, and sometimes it does. Often it doesn't: the AirPods stay with whichever device used them last, and the Mac waits politely for you to do something about it.
The built-in way
- Open Control Center in the menu bar.
- Click the arrow next to Sound, or open the Bluetooth module.
- Pick your AirPods from the list and wait for them to connect.
It works, but it's three clicks and a short wait every time, and it's easy to pick the wrong device when you own more than one pair of headphones.
The one-click way
SoundPost gives each pair of headphones its own icon in the menu bar. Click the icon, or press the hotkey you assigned to it, and the sound moves over in seconds, even when the AirPods are currently connected to your iPhone.
The icon also shows the lowest bud's battery level, so you can see at a glance whether they'll last the next meeting. Left, right and case levels are in the menu.
Why a hotkey helps
If you switch between a desk speaker and AirPods a few times a day, a hotkey per device is the fastest way to do it. You don't have to look at the menu bar at all.
